Nearby Annual Events

Every year the Brecon Beacons hosts a huge variety of events and festivals. Here are a few of the highlights;

Hay Festival – Just a 30 minute drive from Millbrook Cottage, the annual Hay Festival attracts over 80,000 visitors each year. Recent speakers include Bill Clinton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Jeremy Clarkson. Hay-on-Wye, or ’the town of books’ as it’s known is well worth a visit at any time of year, but the Literary Festival takes place at the end of May.

The Royal Welsh Show – Now Europe’s biggest agricultural show, the Royal Welsh takes place at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells approximately 35 minutes from Millbrook Cottage. The show attracts well over 200,000 visitors over 4 days and is held during the 3rd week of July each year.
Events include livestock judging, sheep dog trials, live music, sheep shearing competitions and falconry.

Brecon Jazz Festival – A 3 day music festival held just 20 minutes from Millbrook Cottage, the Brecon Jazz Festival is normally held in early
August in the countryside surrounding Brecon. Previous performers include Van Morrison, Joan Armatrading, Amy Winehouse and Jamie Cullum.

Abergavenny Food Festival – Held over a weekend in September, the Abergavenny Food Festival is a highlight of the Welsh culinary calendar. It offers tasting opportunities, cooking demonstrations and a chance to meet established and up-and-coming chefs and authors. All this just 5 minutes from Millbrook Cottage!

World Bog-Snorkelling Championships – Pull on your mask, snorkel and fins and leap into the breach for the World Bog Snorkelling Championships. Held on the outskirts of Britain’s smallest town, Llanwrtyd Wells, the event is at the end of August and about an hour away.
